Wales and the USA

The links between Wales and the USA go back a long way. At least six of the signatories to the Declaration of Independence and two of the Founding Fathers who were of Welsh extraction, including Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe, went on to become American Presidents.

Today the links are stronger than ever. As Secretary of State Hilary Clinton – herself an American of Welsh descent - said in her message to mark St David’s Day, "Today, we enjoy shared values, extensive cultural exchange, and benefit from a vibrant trade in goods, services and knowledge. As we continue to deepen these ties, our friendship will only grow stronger."

Take a look around our dedicated pages to Wales and the US to find out more about our major transatlantic events and the current Welsh presence in America.

In recent years, Wales has participated in a number of high profile events in the USA.
There are approximately 210 companies in Wales that are US headquartered/owned or have significant ties to the USA.
All of our universities have links with the USA while Fulbright and Marshall scholarships offer enhanced studying opportunities.
