Stories from Wales Smithsonian Cymru
Over 130 participants represented Wales at the 2009 Smithsonian Folklife Festival – and some of them have written great stories about their experiences there.
Beth Thomas, Curator at St Fagans: National History Museum in Wales and Beryl Evans, Family History Co-ordinator have both written articles for CyMAL, the Museums, Archives and Libraries Wales newsletter.
The articles tell us more about their experiences of representing Welsh culture and promoting Welsh roots through Welsh Family History, as well as their experiences of the Festival as a whole.
You can view the CyMAL newsletter with their stories here.
Gareth Evans, writer and researcher in Medicine and Botany, Associate of the National Botanic Garden of Wales, has also written about his experiences at the Festival, in his article "Duke Ellington’s Eye Drops – and all that jazz".
His amusing and interesting article recounts his experiences of being part of the Plants and Medicines programme, talking about Welsh traditional medicine and traditional village healers, as well as his time spent in Washington DC during the Festival.
